Straight Talk

"YOU CAN READ 1,000 profiles of GOP presidential front-runner John McCain without encountering a single paragraph examining his core ideological philosophy. His career is filled with such distracting drama — torture at the Hanoi Hilton, noisy conversion to the campaign-finance-reform faith, political suicide on the Straight Talk Express — that by the time you're done with the highlights, and perhaps a few "maverick" anecdotes, time's up."

Matt Welch, assistant editor of the LA Times looks at the real John McCain. Take a look and you'll see why TONE is skeptical of people who think McCain will be the GOP nominee in 2008.

I have to say Jon for years I admired John McCain. Thinking about what that man must have went through when he was a POW has always been in the back of my mind. Now when I look at McCain I see a man who has lost his way. He no longer has rational convictions because he seems almost terrified by the Thugs in the White House. Very sad. He was against the Iraq war and then was driven to like it (probably after threats from Rove & others). He never cared for the religious right in our country, now he cradles them in his arms. He was tortured for 6 years during the Vietnam war and was against the Torture bill at first, but caved a few days later into agreeing that it's a great bill. What the heck!!! I can't trust him anymore!!! I feel bad too because I've liked him for so many years. Oh well, I suppose that's how politics is.
