Another Sad Day
The President will sign the Torture Approval and Repeal of Due Process Act of 2006 (it's official name is the Military Commissions Act or something like that, but we believe in truth in advertising). You may recall--it was just a bit more than two weeks ago--that Congress rushed to pass this atrocity before adjourning for the elections. From all the hoopla, you might have thought that there was immediate need for it. So, why has Mr. Bush waited to sign it? In a word, PageGate. The White House wanted to avoid embarrassing questions. That's right, national security--at least the administration's version of it--came second to politics. Shocked?
