Tolling the knell

The New York Times blows taps for Hillary Clinton's campaign. On the front page of the Sunday edition, no less.

TONE doesn't claim to be objective in this race, but isn't a story of this type likely to affect the outcome? Is that really a proper function for the newspaper of record? Or, indeed, for any news outlet. Isn't the outcome supposed to be determined by the voters?

In this morning's Washington Post Robert Novak is calling for Hillary to quit the race. When the Times and Novak agree be afraid, be very afraid:-)

And then you have William Kristol columnizing in today's Times about Barack and Michelle's questionable patriotism.

What a world

Whatever shred of intellectual integrity William Kristol had is now long gone. Whenever he opens his mouth my eyes roll back in my head and start to glaze over.

Nothing he says these days is relevant or true.

Thanks to Leanderthal's comment on this post, I actually read Kristol this morning. Usually, I don't bother. The man makes David Brooks sound sensible.

After I read Brooks latest column about OCS, Obama Comedown Syndrome, I wrote him an email saying, "Oh,Please!! William Kristol must be contagious".

Well I figured I'd give Kristol another look:
It’s fitting that the alternative to Obama will be John McCain. He makes no grand claim to fix our souls. He doesn’t think he’s the one everyone has been waiting for. He’s more proud of his country than of himself. And his patriotism has consisted of deeds more challenging than “speaking out on issues.”

That little bit has convinced me that he is only carrying water for the GOP and will say anything to forward that cause - truth be damed.

Let's hope his tenure at The Old Gray Lady is short.
