A good argument for nominating Barack Obama

A photo of Fred Thompson, campaigning in Iowa yesterday:

Don't you want the 2008 campaign to be about the future?

I made a suggestion on Obama's web site yesterday about how to deal with the experience thing. Your picture is another. When I've been told by somebody that they have, say thirty years experience, I have been know to reply, to me you have five years experience repeated six times. On the Daily Show on the experience issue he did a good job by saying that if experience is the most important you would have to look to Cheney and Rumsfeld and that hasn't worked out so well.

I also pleaded that they keep Bob Shrum away from him, and to not screw up his natural appeal with rote responses to all possible interest groups.

The best argument I've heard on "experience" was from JFK (who was two years younger when he took office than Obama is today), who noted that experience means looking backward, while he was looking ahead.
