John McCain would like the American people to think of him as a straight-talking maverick who'll wage war on earmarks and the lobbyists who obtain them.
Sarah Palin, as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, lobbied for and got $27 million in federal earmarks. That's more than $4,000 for every man, woman and child in Wasilla.
